Black and purple, will the sun ever shine? The tree tries to push its power and energy from its long, curved branches, but even the moon has been overcome.

Dark Moon Rising is a depiction of Welsh-Cole's suffering in the pain of bipolar disorder, which she painted during a deep depression. As you look at the dark tree noticed the shades of darkness around it, and how as the daylight moves in, color starts to shine through. You see pinks, purples, white, and plum and how they warm this portrait to the naked eye. Welsh-Cole shows us in this beautiful creation that though life has its challenges, the light will always shine through, and you can overcome the darkness.
